Description

The EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40mQD is a magnetically coupled propeller pump designed to provide broad, gentle water movement in freshwater or saltwater aquariums. It delivers flow up to 5,000 gallons per hour and is recommended for aquariums up to about 500 gallons.

The magnetically coupled design positions the motor outside the aquarium and the wet side inside the aquarium. This configuration keeps electrical wires and motor-generated heat out of the water while also simplifying maintenance.

Flow Modes

• Lagoon Mode
  Changes the pump speed gradually to simulate the gentle currents found in a low-energy lagoon environment.
• Reef Crest Random Mode
  Changes the pump speed frequently and significantly to simulate the variable flow of a high-energy reef environment.
• Gyre Mode
  Produces uniform high and low flow levels at a selected interval between two seconds and two hours. Alternating directional gyre operation requires multiple pumps.
• Short Pulse Mode
  Alternates between uniform high and low flow levels at a selected interval between 0.2 and 2 seconds.
• Tidal Swell Mode
  Creates a multi-stage flow pattern that transitions between chaotic and calm conditions before finishing with a detritus-clearing surge.
• Nutrient Transport Mode
  Uses wave motion to suspend detritus, followed by a surging flow pattern intended to move the detritus toward the aquarium overflow.

Additional Functions

• Feed Mode
  Temporarily pauses the current operating mode and idles wirelessly enabled VorTech pumps while food is added to the aquarium.
• Night Mode
  Operates the pump with a gentler nighttime program that simulates calmer ocean conditions.
• Wave Auto-Tune
  Can be used to create a standing wave within the aquarium.

Installation and Compatibility

The MP40mQD is compatible with aquarium glass up to 0.75 inches thick.

The pump is compatible with the EcoTech Marine Battery Backup accessory, sold separately.

VorTech powerheads can be controlled through Neptune Systems Apex and Apex Fusion using a separately purchased MXM module. The MXM requires a compatible Apex system.
